Material & Ethereal

This sculptural piece, constructed with cement and adorned with delicate gold embellishments, stands as a metaphor for the intersection of strength and fragility. The solid, industrial nature of the cement symbolizes the permanence of structure, resilience, and the grounding forces of human existence. In contrast, the gold ornamentation, intricate and almost organic in its flow, represents both the preciousness of life and the vulnerability woven into even the most rigid constructs.

The juxtaposition of these materials reflects on the deeper theme of impermanence within permanence—how beauty, wealth, and external adornment, though captivating, are ephemeral in the grander scheme of time. The gold embellishments appear to erode or cascade down the cement columns, as if nature itself is reclaiming the material, reminding us of the inevitable decline and transformation all things undergo.

In this work, the artist draws our attention to the tension between what is built to last and what is meant to fade, asking the viewer to consider where true value lies: in the lasting, unyielding forms, or in the fleeting, intricate moments of beauty that define them. This piece invites contemplation on the passage of time, the balance between the material and the ethereal, and the layers of meaning we ascribe to what we create and cherish.
