Eikowa Studio’s latest collection drives its theme from fluidity reflected in the language of curvature.
Functional objects transform into sculptural statements, with utility being an undercurrent to the flowing curves. Across shapes ranging from an uneven ovoid, a sharp convex blade, to a flowing ribbon, the shapes are meant to evoke familiarity in structure, and on closer inspection, inspire joy when audience acknowledges the utility.
The textures have been chosen to celebrate the materials – cement is made pristine, brass tops have the antique finish as well as handcrafted embossed patterns.
While the form is celebrated, driving utility requires precise engineering to ensure that the utility is not diminished – these works are meant to be bonafide funtiture like console, cabinets and benches.
Crafted with restraint yet resonating with presence, the works are meant to transform interiors into galleries of form – where art is not only observed, but lived with.
Every piece in the Vagues de Métal collection is the result of only hands-driven process. Sheets of metal are cut, hammered, and molded by skilled artisans, then composed piece by piece to form richly textured surfaces that embody both strength and movement.
Handcrafted in India, this process ensures that each creation is one of a kind – even when an order is repeated, no two pieces can ever be identical. The individuality of every fold, crease, and hammered plane reflects the artisan’s hand and the organic unpredictability of the material itself.
